I have been wanting to create an editor that is as clean as the IA editor. I was initially looking for an alternative that I wouldn’t have to pay for. I looked for a while, but I started using AI to build stuff after completing a few projects. I thought, why not pick this up?
How it started
I started by finding a similar typography to the IA write. It immediately hit that IBM Plex Mono was so similar. I started with it. I was casually looking around and found a GitHub repo, maybe by the same team, and they had uploaded a few of the font families used in IA Writer. I picked it up and replaced the IBM Plex Mono with these fonts. Then I designed the scroll indicator. I saw this on Pinterest as inspiration. It is not refined yet, but I am currently working on it. I want to make it smooth and fluid.
What is coming next?
- I want to build a good and meaningful insights panel.
- I want to add a spell check to the editor itself.
- Add an onboarding screen to introduce the users to the keyboard shortcuts.
- I want to add a preview section. It renders the text in a more readable format.
- I want to add the option to export the text as .md, .pdf, or .doc files.
